About the session

Move Fast, Stay Compliant: Building Products in Regulated Industries

Successful product management in regulated industries isn’t about choosing between speed and compliance; it’s about designing compliance, risk, and auditability into the product from the beginning.

Building products in regulated industries requires product managers to balance customer needs, business objectives, regulatory requirements, risk, and operational realities. Unlike conventional product environments, the challenge is not simply moving fast, it is finding ways to innovate without compromising compliance, trust, security, or accountability.

Drawing from real-world experience building insurance and AI-powered products in the African market, this talk explores how product teams can navigate these competing priorities. Using insurance claims automation as a central case study, we will examine how a traditionally manual, highly controlled process can be redesigned into a digital workflow while maintaining appropriate human oversight, validation, auditability, and risk controls.

What you will take away

  • Design compliance, risk, and auditability into the product from the beginning rather than bolting them on later.
  • Use human oversight and validation intentionally when automating highly controlled workflows.
  • Balance customer needs and business objectives with regulatory and operational realities.

Why this session

Evidence from the work itself

Oladapo uses insurance claims automation as a concrete case for the core tension of regulated product work: moving faster without compromising compliance, trust, security, or accountability. The session focuses on how controls and human oversight are designed into the workflow itself.
